Crossref Similarity Check

Plagiarism check is done by Crossref Similarity Check (from the company Turnitin). It is a tool for complex and effective check of similarity of texts. It is an interface of commercial database  iThenticate, which is the biggest software for detection and check of plagiarism in academic publishing in the world. Publishers of academic texts use this tool to check the originality of published texts especially in English.

Similarity Check is available for members of the Crossref agency, which means also for publishers within the CTU (thanks to the registration to the DOI identifier). The advantages of membership are better financial conditions in comparison with the commercial use. The main requirement is to participate in building of the full text database of the Crossref agency.

Conditions of the Similarity Check use

Similarity Check can be used by publishers from the whole CTU but only for the academic texts in English which will be published at the CTU with DOI identifier and therefore registered in the Crossref database.

The condition of the Similarity Check use is to provide published texts (minimum of 90 % of the content registered with DOI) in electronic form to the automatic crawler for indexing. This also applies for texts which will not be freely available (the Crossreff agency guarantees that these texts will be only used for the checks).

If you would like to have access to the Similarity Check tool for use of an editorial team of an academic journal, which is being published at the CTU, contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If you would like to use Similarity Check to check one specific document which will not be published at the CTU you need to use a commercial access, for example:

iThenticate (Turnitin) – commercial product, available for anyone, possible to use once for a fee or there are various subscription packages available.
